Misinformation and Disinformation

A common misconception about false information is that it is all the same.
Though it may seem this way there are actually multiple forms of false info,
most notably misinformation and disinformation. To keep it simple misinformation is information that is passed that you believe is true but actually isn't
true. Disinformation on the other hand is information that you know to not be true
yet you say it anyway which is intended to cause harm to others. Fake news is related to misinformation and disinformation because it has the intent to mislead or manipulate which is what misinformation and disinformation do.

Misinformation and disinformation are a problem for people on social media because it causes people to believe false information. People can then spead this false information causing more harm. An example of this is scam links people can get on social media. People spread stories that they are struggling and need help but in reality they are saying that to scam people. This is an example of disinformation, intended to harm others by manipulating you into thinking that they need help. AI's are used by the scammers to make new accounts and follow a large amount of people then send them the scam links. People fall for this because people believe that these people actually need help and give them what they need.
